Back in school a few years ago,
a Thursday night I went to the drive-in show
A guy walked over and said how do you do,
I saw you sitting here
and I think I go to school with you
I’d seen him by the school, but with my luck,
I was always driving my beat up truck
But this night was different, for in fact
I’d borrowed my best friends’s cadillac
Well the guy I was with was a little put out
because he’d said ” you sure look pretty in that cadillac”
Tomorrow why don’t you pick me up at school
I always wanted to go out with you.

Well Friday I was back in my pick-up truck
I saw him there at school and I pulled right up
I said I’m ready, pulling up to the curb,
But he walked away without saying a word
Later that night I was driving around,,
Just cruising the sights somewhere downtown
Now I see why he never looked back
He was riding in my best friend’s cadillac
